Meet Marco Ahedo, CCRIF’s Chief Risk Management Officer… who started this position in July 2025
Behind every CCRIF payout delivered within 14 days sits a rigorously maintained set of catastrophe risk models and a disciplined approach to risk. Ensuring the integrity of these models, and the solvency that lets CCRIF keep its promise event after event, rests in the work of CCRIF’s Chief Risk Management Officer, Mr. Marco Ahedo.
The CRMO… A Role at the Heart of the Organization
The Chief Risk Management Officer provides technical leadership to CCRIF across risk management, financial planning, catastrophe modelling and guiding the underwriting and risk‑transfer strategy for the organization’s growing portfolio - now exceeding US$1.8 billion in coverage across 39 members. His work supports CCRIF’s mandate to deliver rapid, rules‑based liquidity within 14 days of a triggering event and to maintain strong financial resilience amid intensifying climate risks. .It is a role that sits at the very heart of how a development insurer keeps its word.
A Career Built on Parametric Insurance and Innovation
Mr. Ahedo brings more than a decade of insurance-industry experience, much of it at the frontier of parametric design, and a long history with CCRIF itself. Before stepping into the CRMO role in 2025, he spent years as a solvency and parametric-product expert supporting CCRIF’s Risk Management Specialist, where he helped develop feasibility and solvency studies for new segregated portfolios (SPs), including the Central America and Excess Rainfall SPs, maintained and advanced the Dynamic Financial Analysis (DFA) tool, and worked on new products and reinsurance negotiations for the organization.
His wider career spans the public and private sectors. As a Senior Product Manager for Public Sector Solutions at Swiss Re, he designed and reviewed parametric products, covering earthquake, flood, tropical cyclone, drought, extreme heat and excess rainfall, for governments across Latin America and the Caribbean. Earlier, as co-founder of an insurtech venture, he helped raise significant investment and built some of the region’s first retail parametric products for earthquake and tropical cyclone, based on modelled-intensity triggers. He has also advised Mexico’s Ministry of Finance, contributing to the G20 Disaster Risk Management Initiative.
Grounded in Strong Foundations
Marco holds an MSc in Finance from Bayes Business School in London (formerly Cass), earned as a Chevening Scholar of the UK Government, along with an undergraduate degree in Economics and Applied Mathematics from ITAM in Mexico City. Fluent in Spanish and English, he strengthens CCRIF’s engagement across both its Caribbean and Central American membership.
