CCRIF SPC has once again demonstrated the power of parametric insurance in supporting rapid recovery and resilience building across the Caribbean. Following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa in October 2025 in Jamaica, CCRIF made two payouts to the Government of Jamaica totalling US$91.9 million. On October 31, CCRIF announced a record US$70.8 million (J$11.4 billion) payout under Jamaica’s tropical cyclone policy – the single largest payout ever made by CCRIF. Just days later, on November 6, CCRIF confirmed a second payout of US$21.1 million (J$3.4 billion) under Jamaica’s excess rainfall policy. Together, these payouts provided Jamaica with immediate liquidity to respond to urgent needs, stabilize public services, and protect fiscal sustainability. Both payouts were made within 14 days, in keeping with CCRIF’s value proposition to ensure quick access to cash for emergency response and early recovery, reinforcing CCRIF’s commitment to speed, transparency, and fiscal responsiveness.
Supporting Jamaica’s Recovery and Financial Protection Strategy
CCRIF’s parametric insurance policies are a cornerstone of Jamaica’s disaster risk financing framework, providing certainty of funds when disasters strike. These payouts enable the Government to, among other things:
- Support vulnerable populations with food, water, shelter, and medicines
- Repair critical infrastructure and utilities
- Stabilize public finances and safeguard development gains
- Advance resilience-building efforts across key sectors

Since joining CCRIF in 2007, Jamaica has received five payouts under its tropical cyclone and excess rainfall policies – including for Hurricanes Beryl, Eta, and Zeta. Including Melissa, these payouts amount to – amounting to US$122 million, underscoring the country’s foresight in integrating CCRIF’s coverage into its disaster risk financing and risk layering strategy.
