Initial estimates from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) located the epicentre of the event at 12.325°N, 87.683°W, and at a depth of 52.8 km (32.80 mi).
A magnitude 5.3 earthquake occurred at 21:57:42 (UTC) on 24 February 2024, 8.7 km (5.4 mi) E of El Realejo, Chinandega, Nicaragua; 10 km (6.2 mi) SE of Corinto, Chinandega, Nicaragua and 16 km (10 mi) NE of Chinandega, Chinandega, Nicaragua. Initial estimates from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) located the epicentre of the event at 12.538°N, 83.8°W, and at a depth of 83.8 km (52.07 mi)
