As a virtual organization operating across multiple countries and time zones, CCRIF SPC relies on strong communication, trust, and seamless coordination to deliver on its mission. This makes the moments when the team gathers in person especially meaningful. In late 2025, CCRIF held its first staff retreat, bringing together management and staff, for a day of strategic reflection, team building, and shared learning, and, importantly, the kind of human connection that fuels a high‑performing virtual team.
The retreat brought together CCRIF’s leadership, including the CEO, Mr. Isaac Anthony; Chief Risk Management Officer (CRMO), Dr. Marco Ahedo; and Chief Operations Officer (COO), Ms. Gillian Golah alongside staff.
The retreat opened with a series of strategic discussions focused on CCRIF’s evolving role as the Caribbean and Central America’s development insurer and allowed staff and management to step back from day‑to‑day operations and reflect on CCRIF’s long‑term vision — ensuring alignment across teams and reinforcing the organization’s commitment to innovation, excellence, and impact.
Beyond strategy and structured activities, the retreat also included moments of fun and relaxation — from shared meals to lighthearted games and informal conversations. These moments helped deepen personal connections, foster camaraderie, and remind the team that joy and human connection are essential ingredients in a resilient organization.
For a team that spends most of the year collaborating through screens, these in‑person interactions were invaluable. They reinforced a sense of belonging and collective purpose that will carry into the year ahead.
Team Building: Strengthening Trust in a Virtual World

Because CCRIF operates virtually, intentional team building is essential. The retreat featured a series of interactive activities designed to strengthen communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving. Through group challenges, creative exercises, and scenario‑based activities, staff had the opportunity to:
- Build trust and rapport
- Understand each other’s working styles
- Strengthen cross‑functional collaboration
- Practice collective decision‑making
- Celebrate the diversity of skills and personalities within the team
These activities were not only energizing but also reinforced the importance of teamwork in delivering CCRIF’s complex, multi‑country operations.
Group Discussions: Sharing Perspectives and Learning Together

Small‑group discussions created space for staff to reflect on their roles, share insights, and identify opportunities for improvement. These conversations surfaced practical ideas that will help refine CCRIF’s internal systems and strengthen the organization’s culture of continuous improvement.
